Act Governing Retirement, Severance, and Bereavement Compensation for the Teaching and Other Staff Members of Public Schools Article 52
Causes for bereavement compensation when a staff member dies during active service are as follows1. Death by illness or accident.2. Death from a cause in the course of performance of official duties（hereinafter, death from an occupational cause）.Death by suicide will be treated as death by illness or accident. However, bereavement compensation will not be given if the staff member commits suicide after having been sentenced for a crime by a final and conclusive judgment and before being served with a disposition of discharge from employment, removal from employment, or denied renewal of employment.

教職員在職死亡之撫卹原因如下：
一、病故或意外死亡。
二、因執行公務以致死亡（以下簡稱因公死亡）。
自殺死亡比照病故或意外死亡認定。
但因犯罪經判刑確定後，於免職、解聘或不續聘處分送達前自殺者，不予撫卹。
