Regulations on the Management of Crew Members of Fishing Vessels Article 25
A mate shall, pursuant to the command of a captain, assist with fishing vessel navigation, manage deck affairs, and direct all levels of crew of navigation section to conduct operations and internship tasks.Where a captain dies or cannot carry out his/her duties for any reason during navigation and no successor has ever been appointed, the mate who holds the highest ranking order among officers of navigation section shall act for the captain.

船副承船長之命協助駕駛，管理甲板事務，及督率漁航部各級船員從事各項作業與實習。
航行中，船長死亡或因故不能執行職務而未有繼任人時，應由從事駕駛之船員中職級最高之船副代理執行其職務。
