Regulations Governing the Administrative Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Article 9
The Department of North American Affairs shall be responsible for the following:1. Handle observation and research of US political affairs, academic affairs, diplomatic immunities and privileges, military affairs (including military technology), and US-China relations2. Handle local US political affairs, visits, cultural exchanges, business affairs, and general overseas compatriot affairs3. Handle US economic affairs, finance, mutual legal assistance, agriculture and fishery affairs, health, environmental protection, labor, energy, and general science affairs4. Handle Canadian political affairs, educational and cultural affairs, business affairs, visits, and general overseas compatriot affairs5. Handle affairs concerning North American regional organizations, economic and technical cooperation, and fishing vessel incidents6. Other affairs concerning North America

北美司掌理事項如下：
一、對美國政治、學術、特權豁免、軍事（含國防科技事務）及美國與中國大陸關係之觀察、研究。
二、對美國地方政務、邀訪、文化交流、商務及一般僑務事務。
三、對美國之經貿、財政、司法互助、農漁、衛生、環保、勞工、能源及一般科技事務。
四、對加拿大之政治、文教、商務、邀訪及一般僑務事務。
五、對北美地區區域性國際組織事務、經濟與技術合作及漁船遇難事務。
六、其他有關北美地區事項。
