Negotiable Instruments Act Article 16
If a negotiable instrument is altered, the persons who signed it before the alteration are liable for the instrument according to the original tenor; those who signed it after the alteration are liable for the instrument according to the altered tenor. If the time of signing of any person cannot be ascertained, the person's signature is presumed to have been affixed to the instrument before the alteration.A person who participates in or agrees to the alteration of a negotiable instrument shall be liable for the instrument according to the altered tenor regardless of whether the person's signature is affixed before or after the alteration.

票據經變造時，簽名在變造前者，依原有文義負責；簽名在變造後者，依變造文義負責；不能辨別前後時，推定簽名在變造前。
前項票據變造，其參與或同意變造者，不論簽名在變造前後，均依變造文義負責。
