Negotiable Instruments Act Article 143
The drawee shall be liable for paying the amount of the check if the drawer's funds on deposit or the sum of money agreed under a credit agreement are sufficient to meet the amount of the check drawn, provided that this provision shall not apply if the drawee receives prior notice that the drawer has been adjudicated bankrupt.
