The Ministry will be responsible for the following matters:1.planning, management and supervision of health and welfare policies, regulations and resources, as well as relevant investigation, control, evaluation, policy promotion, technological development and international collaboration;2.planning, management and supervision of policies regarding national health insurance, national pensions and long-term care financing;3. planning, management and supervision of policies regarding fertility and child care.4.planning, management and supervision of policies regarding social relief, social work, utilization of social resources and community development;5.planning, management and supervision of policies regarding prevention of domestic violence, sexual assault and sexual harassment, as well as other protection services;6.planning, management and supervision of policies regarding medical personnel, medical institutions, medical groups, national medical network and emergency care;7.planning, management and supervision of policies regarding nursing, long-term care services and early intervention services;8.planning, management, supervision and investigation of policies and regulations regarding medical treatment, health care, medical manpower training and disease prevention and control for indigenous people and offshore island residents;9.planning, management and supervision of policies regarding mental health, prevention and control of mental illness, as well as prevention and control of substance addiction;10.planning, management, supervision and investigation of policies regarding Chinese medicine development and folk therapies;11.supervision, coordination and promotion regarding the subordinate Chinese medicine research organizations, Chinese medical care institutions and social welfare institutions;12.planning, management, supervision and investigation of policies regarding oral health and medical care;13.other health and welfare-related matters.

本部掌理下列事項：
一、衛生福利政策、法令、資源之規劃、管理、監督與相關事務之調查研究、管制考核、政策宣導、科技發展及國際合作。
二、全民健康保險及國民年金業務之監理。
三、社會救助、社會工作、社會資源運用與社區發展之政策規劃、管理及監督。
四、婦女權益保障、婦女福利服務、社會參與、家庭暴力、性侵害、性騷擾防治及其他保護服務業務之政策規劃、管理及監督。
五、醫事人員、醫事機構、醫事團體與全國醫療網、緊急醫療業務之政策規劃、管理及督導。
六、護理政策、法令之規劃、管理、監督及研究。
七、原住民族及離島居民醫療、健康照顧（護）、醫護人力培育、疾病防治之政策與法令規劃、管理、監督及研究。
八、心理健康、精神疾病防治相關政策與物質成癮防治之政策規劃、管理及監督。
九、中醫藥發展、民俗調理之政策規劃、管理、監督及研究。
十、口腔健康與醫療照護之政策規劃、管理、監督及研究。
十一、所屬醫療機構之督導、協調及推動。
十二、其他有關衛生福利事項。
本法中華民國一百十五年八月二十五日修正施行前，本部原聘（僱）用之約聘（僱）人員及原約（僱）用之行政助理，於修正施行後，原任職之單位經裁撤或整併，人員隨同業務調整移撥其他機關者，依原適用法令規定之標準繼續辦理至離職或退休時為止。
