Regulations Governing Tour Guides Article 4

Tour guide licenses are categorized into English, Japanese, other foreign languages, and Chinese-speaking tour guide licenses.Holders of English, Japanese, or other foreign language tour guide licenses are authorized to conduct reception or guiding services for tourists from foreign countries, Mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macau.Holders of a Chinese-speaking tour guide license are authorized to provide reception or guiding services for tourists from Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, or foreign tourists who use Chinese. They are not permitted to guide foreign tourists who do not use Chinese. However, when accompanied by a rare foreign language interpreter, they may guide foreign tourists who speak less commonly used languages.The categories of rare foreign languages mentioned in the proviso of the preceding paragraph, as well as the periods during which such services may be performed, shall be announced by the Tourism Administration of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications based on the tourism market and the supply and demand of tour guide personnel.
