The Law of Ships Article 40
The owner of a ship which is built or acquired abroad shall apply to a ship register institute commissioned by the competent authority at the port of calling for tonnage measurement.For ships that have been measured pursuant to the provision in the preceding paragraph, the owner shall apply to the shipping administration authority for issuance of the Tonnage Certificate.

船舶在國外建造或取得者，船舶所有人應請經主管機關委託之船舶所在地驗船機構丈量。
依前項規定丈量後之船舶，應由所有人向航政機關申請核發船舶噸位證書。
