A person who abandons a helpless person shall be sentenced to imprisonment for not more than six months, short-term imprisonment, or a fine of not more than three thousand dollars.If the commission of the offense results in death, the offender shall be sentenced to imprisonment for not more than five years; if aggravated injury results, the offender shall be sentenced to imprisonment for not more than three years.
