Degree Conferral Act Article 9
Students enrolled in a doctoral program who meet the following requirements may become a doctoral candidate:1.They have earned the required course credits.2.They have passed the qualifying ex-amination for doctoral candidacy.Doctoral candidates who have completed their programs within the legally pre-scribed period, met the graduation re-quirements submitted a dissertation, and passed an examination conducted by a doctoral degree examination committee shall be awarded a doctoral degree.Students undertaking a doctoral program in a fine arts, applied science or technolo-gy, or sports field may submit a work or proof of achievement accompanied by a written report, or a technical report in-stead of a doctoral dissertation. The crite-ria for recognizing and determining whether this is applicable to a particular field shall be implemented by each uni-versity after being approved at a universi-ty level academic affairs meeting.For each suitable field referred to in the preceding paragraph for which a work or proof of achievement accompanied by a written report, or technical report may be submitted instead of a doctoral disserta-tion, the regulations governing the scope of said recognition and determination, the form of materials, content items, and oth-er related matters shall be prescribed by the competent authority.

大學修讀博士學位之學生，具有下列條件者，得為博士學位候選人：
一、修滿應修學分。
二、通過博士學位候選人資格考核。
博士學位候選人依法修業期滿，符合畢業條件並提出論文，經博士學位考試委員會考試通過者，授予博士學位。
藝術類、應用科技類或體育運動類博士班，其學生博士論文得以作品、成就證明連同書面報告或以技術報告代替；各該類科之認定基準，由各校經教務相關之校級會議通過後實施。
前項之各該類科，得以作品、成就證明連同書面報告或技術報告，代替博士論文之認定範圍、資料形式、內容項目及其他相關事項之準則，由主管機關定之。
