Amendments to the Regulations Governing Preferential Admission for Academic Advancement for Students with Outstanding Achievements in International Mathematics or Science Olympiads and International Science Fairs Article 2
The terms used in these Regulations are defined as follows:1.“international mathematics and science olympiads” refers to the following olympiads: (1)the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO), the International Physics Olympiad (IPhO), the International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO), the International Biology Olympiad (IBO), the International Earth Science Olympiad (IESO), and the International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI). (2)The Asian Pacific Mathematics Olympiad (APMO) and the Asian Physics Olympiad (APhO). (3)The International Junior Science Olympiad (IJSO). (4)The European Girls' Mathematical Olympiad (EGMO) (5)Other international mathematics or science olympiads recognized by the Ministry of Education (hereunder abbreviated to “the Ministry”)2.“international science fairs” refers to the Regeneron U.S. International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) and other international science fairs recognized by the Ministry in which the competing participants have been selected by the National Taiwan Science Education Center.3.“preferential admission for academic advancement” refers to guaranteed admission or recommended admission to the next level of education by providing places in addition to the normal admission quota.4.“senior secondary school level student” refers to any senior secondary school student, or any student who is receiving non-school-based experimental education at the senior secondary school level who is not registered as a student at a senior secondary school.5.“college or university” refers to a university, university of technology, or a college of technology with four-year programs.6.“department of a corresponding discipline area” refers to a department of the same discipline area as that of the competitive event that an outstanding student participated in.

本辦法用詞，定義如下：
一、國際數理學科奧林匹亞競賽，指下列競賽：
（一）國際數學、物理、化學、生物、地球科學及資訊奧林匹亞競賽。
（二）亞太數學及亞洲物理奧林匹亞競賽。
（三）國際國中科學奧林匹亞競賽。
（四）歐洲女子數學奧林匹亞競賽。
（五）其他經教育部（以下簡稱本部）認定之國際數理學科奧林匹亞競賽。
二、國際科學展覽：指由國立臺灣科學教育館選派參加之美國國際科技展覽會（InternationalScienceandEngineeringFair,ISEF）及其他經本部認定之國際科學展覽。
三、升學優待：指以名額外加方式，保送或推薦升學。
四、高級中等教育階段學生：指高級中等學校學生及參與高級中等教育階段非學校型態實驗教育未取得學籍學生。
五、大學：指大學、科技大學或技術學院四年制。
六、各本學系：指與參賽項目相同之各本學系。
