Amendments to the Regulations Governing Preferential Admission for Academic Advancement for Students with Outstanding Achievements in International Mathematics or Science Olympiads and International Science Fairs Article 10

A senior secondary school level student who represents Taiwan in an international mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, earth sciences, or informatics olympiad and receives a gold medal and is in the upper 50 percent of the list of gold medal winners, or who takes part in the Regeneron U.S. International Science and Engineering Fair and receives a 1st Place Grand Award and subsequently obtains admission to a department or institute of mathematics or science at a leading foreign college or university recognized by the Ministry may apply to the Ministry for a scholarship to study abroad. Any student who is repeating a year of a program or any student who is admitted to another program at the same degree level through an entrance examination after having graduated will not receive any subsidy funding.When the calculation of the upper 50 percent of the list of gold medal winners referred to in the preceding paragraph results in a decimal place, it is rounded up to the next whole number.Students referred to in Paragraph 1 who apply for a scholarship to study a bachelor’s degree, master’s degree, or doctorate program abroad shall submit the documents listed below and apply within one year from the day that they graduate from the preceding educational stage.1.An application form.2.Documents demonstrating that the student has Republic of China citizenship and has household registration in the Taiwan Area.3.A photocopy of the award certificate or related documentary evidence.4.A photocopy of a certificate of admission to a program in a department or institute of mathematics or science at a leading college or university overseas that is recognized by the Ministry (except a college or university in the Mainland Area, or the Hong Kong, or Macao areas).Students who apply for a scholarship to study abroad under these Regulations and pass a review by the Ministry will each receive a scholarship to study abroad; the scholarship amount will differ for different countries.A student whose application for a scholarship to study abroad has been reviewed and approved by the Ministry shall sign an agreement with the Ministry. The agreement shall include the amount of the scholarship, the duration of the scholarship, and any subsequent requirements for the student, reasons for which the scholarship will be terminated or scholarship funds must be repaid, and other rights and obligations.The Ministry shall establish a panel that is responsible for providing long-term guidance to the students who go abroad to study referred to in the preceding paragraph, monitoring their study circumstances, and providing necessary services.
